Working on a project where I'm presenting plain, low poly geometry without textures, can present a problem where certain models can look extremely plain. The reason is that so many details can be accomplished with normal mapping, etc, that there's not much value in spending the extra polys in the mesh.
To avoid having a bunch of super plain and ugly to look at, but very low poly models, in cases where I can spare a few cuts without damaging the poly count too badly, I've been adding in a few details I normally would reserve for doing with textures. This has mostly been the case with the "landmark" structures, the ones that need to stand out the most to sell the look of the project.
With that in mind, I did a quick run through the town and touched up on a couple structures to give them a little more value:
- Ranch: Added door, and other architectural detail to the Barn mesh.
- Livery: Added detail to the barn doors.
