Not an awful lot in the way of modeling work today to update. Left the house this morning, and discovered when I reached school that the most current version of the file that I'd stored on my flash drive was corrupted. Backup copies at home will be fine, but I was unable to access the most recent version to update today.
This weekend is the school-sponsored Interfaces Conference in Troy, MI, and I was asked by Kim Callery, Game department chairperson, to provide a handful of shots of the project to be displayed at the conference. Ambient occlusion renders of three shots on a dual core machine ate up a considerable amount of time, as well as compositing on a second machine in resolution high enough for print. A good amount of work, but I think I got some pretty good shots, and they'll be on display at a conference with several games industry folks in attendance. I'm honored to be asked to display my work.
In the meantime, I did find a few minutes to model a couple different styles of 19th century telephone. The town would have at least one telephone, and a telegraph machine, somewhere, but I'm not entire sure where to place them. Typically there would be a telegraph office, or perhaps a section of the Post Office or General store. The train station is another possibility. However, none of these buildings in the project have interiors. I'm considering using the phone in the Sheriff's office, but I may end up scrapping the model and holding onto it for a later date when I get more time to put into the project.
Tomorrow evening I'll be able to access the most current versions of the project and get back to work decorating the town. Professor Jim still wants to see a train. Trying to figure out a way to accomodate that with a week and a half left and a lot of little odds and ends needed around town to flesh out the details.
I'll be back tomorrow with another update.
