The Body

As I suspected, wheels just weren't enough. It's been such a long time since I really modeled something seriously, and auto bodies were always the most challenging type of geometry for me, for some reason.

Typically, I box model pretty much everything. I spent about an hour or so attempting to box model this mesh before giving it up and deciding to try edge extrusion. I started by tracing the midline of the car across the hood, roof, and trunk with a spline, and then extruding outward from there. This is the current result after about 7 or 8 hours work total on the auto body project.

Hopefully by the next update there will be enough of it so it will be recognizable. My current plan, since I already went so overboard with the wheels, is to try to model most of the important mechanics, including the suspension and engine/drive train. Guesstimating that this is going to take me a couple weeks to complete. Here's some preview shots below:
