Fun With XNA

I guess this is the first post in quite a while... I bet you thought I was dead!

However, rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated, as the old saying goes. It's been a busy month since finishing up the Capstone project (and my last term at school). During that time, I've been job hunting, networking, brushing up on some software I haven't used in a while, and wandering around Azeroth in World of Warcraft. That's actually been kind of fun, considering it's been at least nine months, if not a whole year, since I've been able to actually play a game with any sort of attention level.

They say necessity is the mother of invention, and I've been tapped to teach a class on Microsoft XNA next month. I have had a little bit of experience with it in the past, so I've spent a few hours going through beginning tutorials to refamiliarize myself. This looks like its going to be a lot of fun, but challenging, given that my background is in art and not in programming. The 2d aspects remind me a lot of a class I took about two years ago in Allegro. I'll be cramming in a lot of study on C# this week and working on modding some of the tutorials out there to start getting my feet wet.

Thankfully, while I don't actually program well from scratch, I do have a pretty good understanding of OOP and the basic workings of classes, functions, loops, etc.

I'll be back in the coming week with more updates, maybe even some playable demos of the mods I plan to work on. I'll be working on both 2d and 3d stuff in order to familiarize myself more fully with the way XNA works.

Stay tuned!
