Just a quick update to basically say there will be an update -- I promise.
Milestone 2 for the Old West Town project has come and gone, and has been met (and exceeded in some cases). A full post mortem is forthcoming. The town is really beginning to take shape now.
In the midst of modeling and layout design, I've been back at the research as well, digging up concepts and ideas for the landmark structures due for milestone 3, as well as the many little world objects that will raise the level of detail and help make the town more "real."
The coming post mortem will contain a slew of renders, which is primarily what's holding things up. Even with 4 processor cores, ambient occlusion renders aren't made for quick snapshots, unfortunately.
In the meantime, those interested in checking out the beginning point of this project, as well as the current progress, can feel free to download the following obj files. For 3d neophytes, obj files should be readable by any 3d authoring program (free or otherwise), and even by Photoshop CS3 and CS4.
Enjoy and I'll be back with the post mortem as well as details regarding milestone 3.
